IPSTAR VoIP Service FAQs

General Information

What is IPSTAR VoIP?

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a voice technology to make and receive calls via your IPSTAR Internet service.

Why do I need to use IPSTAR VoIP?

If you are already connected to a Satellite Internet service with IPSTAR, we encourage you to use IPSTAR VoIP. With full compatibility to your IPSTAR Internet service, our VoIP service may help you save money on your phone bills.  IPSTAR VoIP plan also includes VoIP features which may usually cost you more with a traditional phone service.

Can I use IPSTAR VoIP if my Internet service is not IPSTAR?

IPSTAR will only supply VoIP service to customers who have already subscribed to IPSTAR Internet service. In this case, IPSTAR can assure the quality of VoIP service and can troubleshoot issues quicker and more effective.

What is the voice quality of IPSTAR VoIP like when compared to a traditional phone service?

IPSTAR engineers have intensively tested IPSTAR VoIP with IPSTAR Internet service to make sure that our customers would be satisfied with the service. However, due to the 37,000 km distance between earth and our satellite, customers might experience a slight delay.

What is 1-way service?

1-way service is an outbound only phone service. If you can only obtain 1-way service that means you can only make outgoing calls. To receive incoming calls, you will need to maintain your existing fixed line.

Should I cancel my existing telephone line?

We highly recommend you have an alternative telecommunications service (e.g. keeping an existing fixed line as a backup) to contact Emergency Services in the event of any unforeseen circumstances. It is necessary for customers to understand that IPSTAR VoIP service is to complement and not a fixed line replacement. The service might not be utilized when there is a power outage, Internet service interruption or related hardware is at fault.

How can I sign up IPSTAR VoIP service?

To sign up IPSTAR VoIP service, you can login to MyIPSTAR customer portal, click on My VoIP menu, and follow simple steps until your VoIP signup is completely done.

How can I check my call usage?

You can view your usage and manage your account online through MyIPSTAR portal. The usage details through MyIPSTAR will provide you with the date, time, call type, number called, duration of call, call code and call charges. Your call usage will not be real-time update and will update in the next 24 hours.

What is a minimum speed required for IPSTAR VoIP service?

To ensure optimal IPSTAR VoIP results, we highly recommend that you have a minimum speed of 256Kbps to use our VoIP service as a lower speed will affect the voice quality of IPSTAR VoIP service. If you are subscribing with a plan of 256Kbps or under and want to use our VoIP service, please call IPSTAR to upgrade your plan.

Can I still use IPSTAR VoIP service if my data allowance is reached and speed is shaped?

The speed that has been shaped is not sufficient for making calls via IPSTAR VoIP service. However, you can login to MyIPSTAR and purchase extra data blocks and upgrade your plan at any time to avoid your Internet being shaped.

Am I able to use IPSTAR VoIP service when my Internet service is suspended?

Your VoIP service may be automatically suspended along with your Internet service. This means that you will not be able to call or use data services for the period your account has these restrictions in place.

Am I able to port my existing number over to IPSTAR VoIP service?

No. Number porting to IPSTAR VoIP service is currently not available. Therefore, you will be given a new local phone number when you activate your new service.

Can I cancel my service?

You can cancel your service; however, advance notice of termination is required as per terms of agreement. As such requests to terminate a service need to be made in advance. Cancellation fees may apply where a minimum commitment was chosen at the time of applying for service and has not been fulfilled at the time of termination. Invoices will be sent after the termination of your service. This is because IPSTAR has always charged our customers in arrears, so further invoices will be generated after your service is terminated. These charges will be for services made available to you up until the date of termination. You will receive invoices after your service is terminated.
